Bruce White, DO, JD (Director, Principal)
is a pharmacist, a board-certified pediatrician, and an attorney with fellowship training in clinical medical ethics. He came to St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona from Nashville, Tennessee in March 2004 to join the general pediatrics residency faculty. Presently he serves as academic chair of the pediatrics department and directs the clinical ethics fellowship program for the hospital. He holds faculty appointments as Clinical Professor of Pediatrics in the University of Arizona College of Medicine and Clinical Professor of Pharmacy Practice and Science in the College of Pharmacy, Tucson, Arizona; and Clinical Professor of Pediatrics, Creighton University School of Medicine, Omaha, Nebraska. He also serves as Professor and Director of the campus-wide, interdisciplinary Healthcare Ethics and Law (HEaL) Institute at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama.
Kate Payne, RN, JD is Director of Ethics at Saint Thomas Hospital (Nashville) and an adjunct professor at Vanderbilt University School of Nursing. Before taking her position at Saint Thomas, she was at the University of Chicago where she managed a Critical Care Unit and completed a fellowship in clinical medical ethics.
Ronn Huff, MA (C) (Principal) is Director of HCA’s Center for Clinical Ethics, an outreach program that provides ongoing educational programs for 166 hospitals in 20 states. Since 2001, Ronn has also served as Clinical Ethicist for three Nashville-area hospitals - Summit Medical Center, Skyline Medical Center, and Hendersonville Medical Center.
Gretchen Fair, JD, MA, MSW holds law and bioethics degrees from the University of Virginia and a masters in social work from the Catholic University of America. She practiced labor and employment law in Washington, D.C. before serving as the 2005-06 fellow in clinical ethics at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center, Phoenix, Arizona. She now works as a clinical social worker in Washington, D.C.
